The art department at Pasadena City College relocated to a new building in 2013. There was a group of
discarded canvases that were available in the former painting studio. I spotted some 9 X 12 inch quick
studies that I could later re-purpose. That same year I took a trip to Italy. The colors and textures of the
canvases reminded me of the color of the architecture and hillsides of rural Italy, specifically, Perugia,
where I had lived as a teenager during the summer of 1968. I sanded the surface and began painting
over everything that wasn’t a tree or a flower. |
